For this list, I tested 25 MT5 brokers on the factors that most clearly differentiate the broker experience: EUR/USD and gold pricing during the London session, Strategy Tester data quality, hedging setup, instrument depth across asset classes and EA execution quality.Updated in September 2026.
This guide also covers issues many MT5 pages overlook, including migration from MT4, the hedging-versus-netting decision and how MT5's Strategy Tester changes backtesting for serious algo traders. AvaTrade is our #1 MT5 broker for 2026, combining MetaTrader 5 with broad multi-asset access, an unlimited demo account, strong multi-jurisdiction regulation and a wide choice of trading, automation and copy-trading tools. FP Markets ranks second for traders who prioritize raw-style pricing and MT4/MT5/cTrader flexibility, followed by CFI for research tools, Pepperstone for active-trader infrastructure and Eightcap for TradingView-led workflows and crypto CFDs.

About This Review

I choose these MT5 Forex brokers by researching and judging the parts of a broker offer that matter most once a trader has already chosen MetaTrader 5: spreads, execution model, MT5 instrument depth, platform add-ons, Strategy Tester support, hedging mode availability, regulation, minimum deposit, demo quality and whether the broker is practical for manual, scalping or automated MT5 strategies.

Important Risk Warning - Read Before Proceeding

Forex and CFD trading involve significant risk. Between 70% and 89% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing all your invested capital.

MT5 Brokers: 5 Quick Questions

Which is the best MT5 broker in 2026?

AvaTrade is our top-ranked MT5 broker in 2026 because it combines an accessible MT5 setup with broad multi-asset coverage, an unlimited demo, strong regulation and support for automated and copy-trading workflows. FP Markets is particularly suitable for raw-style pricing and platform flexibility; CFI for research-led tools; Pepperstone for scalping and active trading; and Eightcap for TradingView-led analysis and crypto CFD access.

Does it matter which broker I use for MT5?

Yes. MT5 is standardized, but the broker controls the spreads, commission, execution model, instruments, data feed, account type, VPS access, add-ons, funding options and legal entity. A broker with excellent MT5 tools can feel very different from a broker that only offers the basic platform.

Can I use my MT4 EAs on MT5?

Not directly. MT4 uses MQL4 and MT5 uses MQL5, so MT4 Expert Advisors and custom indicators do not simply run on MT5. Traders can keep MT4 for existing EAs, rewrite the strategy in MQL5, hire a developer for conversion, or look for an equivalent tool in the MQL5 Marketplace.

What is MT5 hedging mode?

MT5 can operate in netting or hedging mode. MT4 traders usually expect hedging, where long and short positions on the same instrument stay open separately. In MT5 netting mode, opposing trades reduce or close the existing position. Traders who want the MT4-style workflow should enable hedging before placing live trades.

Is MT5 better than MT4?

MT5 is better for multi-asset trading, advanced back testing, more timeframes, economic-calendar access, Depth of Market and multi-threaded strategy testing. MT4 may still be better if you rely on existing MQL4 EAs, custom indicators or a familiar MT4 workflow that you do not want to rebuild. Many traders keep both platforms available.

MetaTrader 5 is no longer the “newer but less used” MetaTrader platform. After 15 years of MT4 dominance, MetaTrader 5 trading volume surpassed MT4 for the first time in 2025. Its improved Strategy Tester, 21 timeframes, native Depth of Market, and support for stocks and futures have pulled serious traders across. If you have made the decision to use MT5, the main question you now must ask is which broker makes MT5 work best for your strategy.

The MT5 platform itself is standardized, but the broker controls the experience around it: pricing, execution, the asset list available inside Market Watch, the quality of historical data, VPS options, add-ons, account structure and the legal entity that holds your funds. Two brokers can both offer MT5 and still feel completely different when it comes to real-world trading.

What Is MetaTrader 5?

MetaTrader 5 is a multi-asset trading platform from MetaQuotes. It is available as a desktop platform, web terminal and mobile app, and it supports manual trading, chart analysis, copy trading through the MT5 Signals ecosystem and algorithmic trading through MQL5 Expert Advisors. MT5 was designed to go beyond the Forex-only roots of MT4 by supporting more markets, more order types and a more advanced back testing engine.

For traders comparing MT5 brokers, the important point that needs to be understood is that MT5 is only the platform. The broker determines the account conditions. That includes whether stocks, ETFs, crypto CFDs, indices and commodities appear on the MT5 server, what spreads and commissions apply, and what data quality is available for back testing.

MT5 vs MT4: Which Platform Is Better?

Both MT4 and MT5 are popular trading platforms, but they are built for slightly different types of traders. MT4 remains a strong choice for Forex-focused traders who want simplicity, wide broker support, and access to existing Expert Advisors. MT5, however, offers more advanced charting, order types, back testing, and multi-asset support, making it better suited for traders who need broader market access and more powerful analysis tools.

Migrating from MT4 to MT5

Your MT4 EAs will not run on MT5 - read before migrating

MT4 uses MQL4. MT5 uses MQL5. These are different programming languages. Your MQL4 Expert Advisors cannot simply be dragged into MT5 and run.
This is the most common MT5 migration surprise. Many traders have discovered this after switching, losing their working EA-based strategies in the process.

Migration option
What it involves
Best for
Realistic cost/time
Keep MT4 and MT5 simultaneously
Run MT4 for your existing EAs. Open MT5 account at the same broker for manual trading and new MQL5 strategies.
Most MT4 EA traders — zero disruption, full MT5 access
Zero cost. Most brokers on this list offer both platforms from one account.
Professional MQL4 → MQL5 conversion
Pay a developer to rewrite your EA in MQL5.
EAs that are proven profitable and worth the investment.
$200-$2,000 depending on complexity. Timeline: days to weeks.
Use an MT4-to-MT5 bridge tool
Third-party tools that translate MQL4 signals to MT5 execution.
Limited use cases — not all EAs are compatible.
Monthly fee typically $30-$100/month. Reliability varies.
Rewrite in MQL5 yourself
Learn MQL5 and rewrite your strategy natively.
Traders with programming background and time.
Free (your time). MQL5 learning curve is 2-6 months for non-programmers.
Find equivalent MQL5 EA
Search the MQL5 Marketplace for an MQL5 version of a similar strategy.
Traders whose EA is based on common indicators.
Free or paid ($10-$500+). Read reviews carefully.

A Practical Tip for MT4 EA Traders

  • Open an MT5 account at your current broker- most MT4 brokers also offer MT5.
  • Use MT4 for your existing EAs.
  • Use MT5 for manual trading, the improved Strategy Tester, and any new automated strategies you build in MQL5.
  • All the brokers on this list offer both MT4 and MT5. You don't have to choose - keep both running from the same funded account.

Everything That Doesn't Transfer from MT4 to MT5

What you have on MT4
Does it work on MT5?
What to do
MQL4 Expert Advisors (.ex4/.mq4)
No - MQL4 and MQL5 are different languages
See the EA migration table above. Options: keep MT4 for EAs, rewrite in MQL5, or use conversion service.
Custom indicators (.ex4)
No - MT4 .ex4 indicators don't load on MT5
Search MQL5 Marketplace for .ex5 equivalents. Most popular indicators have MT5 versions. Proprietary indicators may not.
Chart templates (.tpl files)
No - template format is incompatible
Rebuild your workspace manually. Budget 30–120 minutes depending on complexity of your setup.
Chart profiles (multi-chart layouts)
No - profile format differs
Save screenshots of your MT4 layout, then recreate in MT5.
Scripts (.mq4)
No - must rewrite in MQL5
Most simple scripts are quick rewrites. Complex scripts may need a developer.
MT4 template colours/themes
No - must reset manually
MT5 has its own theme settings under Tools → Options → Charts.
Trade history export (.htm)
Partially - different format
MT5 exports trade history differently. You can view MT4 history in MT4 terminal and MT5 history in MT5 terminal simultaneously.

The 2 MT5 Differences Every MT4 Trader Should Understand

MT5 difference 1 - Where is my trade history?

In MT4, closed trades appear under Terminal → History tab.
In MT5, the Terminal has three separate tabs: Orders for pending orders, Positions for open positions, and Deals for closed trade history.
MT4 traders often look for History, but in MT5 it is called Deals. Your closed trade history is there.

MT5 difference 2 - Why do my positions look different?

In MT5 netting mode, which is often the default, if you enter EUR/USD three times at different prices, MT5 combines all entries into one position showing a blended average entry price. You cannot see your individual entries separately.
This is netting mode working correctly. It is not an error.
To see individual entries, enable hedging mode: Tools → Options → Trade → Use hedge accounting. In hedging mode, each entry shows as a separate position, like MT4.

When to STAY on MT4 - The Honest Answer

MT5 is not always the upgrade. MT4 is still the better choice if:
1. You have working MT4 EAs in MQL4 that you cannot or do not want to rewrite. Keeping them on MT4 is free, immediate and zero risk.
2. You only trade Forex and have no need for stocks, futures or MT5-specific features. MT4 is simpler and equally effective for pure Forex.
3. Your broker offers better pricing on MT4 than MT5. Some brokers have historically better spreads or liquidity on their MT4 servers. Check your broker's spread data on both platforms before switching.
4. You are newer to trading and MT4's cleaner interface is easier to navigate. MT5's additional features can be overwhelming.
The good news: all 5 brokers on this list offer both MT4 AND MT5 from the same funded account. You don't need to choose - run both.

How to Choose the Best MT5 Broker

Here are the key factors that you need to evaluate when selecting an MT5 broker and what to check for:

  1. Regulation and Entity: Confirm the specific legal entity that will hold your account, not only the global brand name. Investor protections can vary by country.
  2. MT5 Instrument Range: Check the instruments inside the broker’s MT5 server. A broker may advertise thousands of markets overall but fewer inside MT5.
  3. Spread Plus Commission: Raw spreads from 0.0 pips can be attractive, but the round-trip commission must be included. Compare all-in cost, not only the headline spread.
  4. Execution Style: Scalpers and EAs usually benefit from ECN/STP or NDD execution, while lower-frequency traders may value simplicity and tools more.
  5. MT5 Add-ons: Look for tools that improve the standard platform, such as Autochartist, Trading Central, Smart Trader Tools, proprietary AI tools, VPS, or TradingView integration.
  6. Demo Quality: Use demo to test hedging mode, chart templates, order entry, mobile workflow, spreads, and Strategy Tester before depositing.

MT5 Hedging Mode: Set This Before Your First Live Trade

MT4 traders are used to hedging: a long position and a short position on the same market can stay open at the same time. MT5 can work this way, but it can also use netting mode, where opposing trades reduce the existing position instead of opening a second position. This is one of the most common MT5 surprises for traders moving from MT4.

Mode
What happens
Best for
Netting mode
Opening a sell when you already hold a buy reduces or closes the existing position.
Traders who want one blended position per instrument.
Hedging mode
A buy and sell on the same instrument can both remain open as separate positions.
MT4-style traders, hedging strategies and many EA users.

How to Enable MT5 Hedging Mode

1. Open MT5 → Tools (top menu) → Options → Trade tab

2. Tick 'Use hedge accounting'

3. Tap OK

4. Restart MT5

5. Verify it worked: open a long position, then try to open a short position on the same instrument. You should see two separate positions in the terminal, not a net position.

All 5 brokers on this list support MT5 hedging mode.

Enable Hedging Mode BEFORE Your First Live MT5 Trade

You cannot change hedging mode while you have open trades.
Set it before placing your first live position.

MT5 Strategy Tester: Why Serious Algo Traders Prefer It

Feature
What MT5 adds
Why it matters
Real tick testing
Backtests can use actual historical tick data rather than only bar approximations.
More realistic results for scalping and high-frequency strategies.
Multi-threaded optimisation
MT5 can use multiple CPU cores.
Parameter testing is much faster than in MT4.
Multi-currency testing
Strategies can test more than one symbol at the same time.
Useful for portfolio EAs or correlated-market systems.
Forward testing
MT5 can test with unseen data during optimisation.
Helps reduce curve-fitting risk.
Cloud optimisation
MetaQuotes cloud agents can run optimisation tasks.
Large parameter searches can finish faster.

How to Access MT5 Strategy Tester

Tap Ctrl+R to open the Strategy Tester panel.

  • For peak accuracy, select 'Every tick based on real ticks' as your modelling method. This uses the broker's actual historical tick data for the most realistic results.
  • Cloud testing: check the 'Cloud' box in Strategy Tester settings. This uses MetaQuotes' distributed cloud infrastructure. It requires free registration at MQL5.community.

Multi-currency Backtesting

Test a portfolio EA that trades EUR/USD when momentum is strong AND XAU/USD as a hedge when volatility spikes – test simultaneously on the same historical period.

In MT5 Strategy Tester, create an MQL5 EA that calls multiple instruments using SymbolSelect, enable the tester, and run against your chosen date range. The result shows combined P&L across all instruments as a single equity curve.

What to Test on Your MT5 Demo Before Going Live

1. Hedging mode: enable it (Tools → Options → Trade → Use hedge accounting) and verify it works - open a long, then open a short on the same pair, and confirm both positions appear in the Terminal separately.
2. Strategy Tester on demo: run a simple free EA from the MQL5 Marketplace on real tick data. Compare the modelling quality % - it should be near 100% if the broker provides real tick data.
3. 21 timeframes: right-click the chart time axis and add an M6 or H8 chart. Verify the data is populated and the bars look correct.
4. Economic calendar: press Ctrl+5 and verify upcoming events are loading. This is a useful daily habit for active MT5 traders.

MT5 Trading Costs and Fees

MT5 trading costs depend mainly on the broker, account type, asset class, and trading style. While the platform itself is usually free for traders, costs such as spreads, commissions, swaps, currency conversion, inactivity fees, and VPS hosting can affect overall profitability. Before opening an MT5 account, traders should compare the full trading cost, not just the advertised minimum spread.

Fee type
What MT5 traders should know
Spread
The difference between bid and ask. It applies every time you open and close a trade.
Commission
A separate charge on raw or ECN-style accounts. Compare the round-trip cost, not only the one-way figure.
Swap / overnight financing
Charged or credited when leveraged positions are held past rollover. Check MT5 Market Watch -> Specification -> Swap Long and Swap Short.
Currency conversion
Applies when your account currency differs from the currency of profit/loss or funding.
Inactivity fee
Some brokers charge after a period of no trading activity. Check account terms before leaving funds idle.
VPS / virtual hosting
EA traders may need a VPS. Some brokers offer free VPS for qualifying accounts; MT5 also has built-in virtual hosting via MetaQuotes.

Trading Styles – Which Type of Trader Benefits Most from MT5?

MT5 is especially useful if you are looking for greater flexibility than MT4 can provide, and you require advanced back testing, more chart timeframes, broader multi-asset access, built-in market depth and integrated copy trading tools.

The best MT5 broker for you will depend on how you plan to use the platform. For example, if you are a scalper, you may prioritize pricing and execution, whereas if you are an EA trader you need reliable testing and automation support, while multi-asset traders benefit most from a wider instrument range.

MT5 Virtual Hosting - The Built-in VPS Inside MT5

MT5 traders have several VPS options depending on how much setup and broker support you want.

The simplest choice is MT5 Virtual Hosting. This VPS service is built-in - no third-party signup required. Available directly inside the platform through Tools → Virtual Hosting, it works as a paid monthly subscription and is best for traders who want to run EAs, signals or copy trading with minimal setup. MetaQuotes' Virtual Hosting runs your EAs on their own servers, keeping strategies active 24/5 even when your computer is off.

How to Set Up MT5 Virtual Hosting in 3 Steps

1. In MT5 desktop: click Tools (top menu) → Virtual Hosting. The setup wizard opens.
2. Select your desired server location (choose one close to your broker's execution server for minimum latency).
3. Select which EAs to migrate to the virtual host. MT5 copies your EAs and settings to the remote server.
Important: you still need your MT5 desktop to monitor and manage the VPS. The virtual host runs your EAs independently - your desktop is just the control panel.

Some brokers also offer or support VPS solutions:

  • Pepperstone provides broker-supported VPS access for eligible clients through the client area, usually subject to account, balance, volume or entity requirements.
  • FP Markets offers VPS access through its client portal or VPS service page, often free or subsidized for qualifying traders.
  • AvaTrade supports MetaTrader users who want to run automated strategies through VPS-based setups; availability and any broker-specific conditions should be checked for the relevant account and entity.
  • Traders using CFI, Eightcap, or any broker where a free VPS is not available can use MetaTrader Virtual Hosting or a compatible third-party MT5 VPS provider.

MT5 for Signal Providers

If you provide trading signals to other traders, MT5 offers native infrastructure through MetaQuotes' Signals marketplace. Signal providers publish their strategy, and subscribers can automatically copy their trades through MT5. Providers can charge subscribers a monthly subscription fee for access to their signal.

Signal Provider Account

To become an MT5 signal provider, register through MQL5.community and connect a compatible MT5 trading account as the source account. Subscribers can then copy your trades through the MT5 Signals marketplace where supported.

AvaTrade, FP Markets, CFI, Pepperstone and Eightcap can potentially be used for MT5 signal provision, subject to the relevant broker and entity allowing MQL5 Signals.

Real Money Account

Signal providers generally need a real funded trading account rather than a demo account. Subscribers typically assess live performance, trading history, risk and consistency before deciding whether to follow a signal.

AvaTrade, FP Markets, CFI, Pepperstone and Eightcap offer MT5 accounts that may be suitable, although minimum deposits and account requirements vary by broker and entity.

Building a Track Record

An MQL5 signal provider profile can display metrics such as trading history, growth, drawdown, profit, balance and equity behaviour, and monthly results. These figures help subscribers evaluate a provider before subscribing.

The track record begins building once live MT5 trading activity is connected and published through MQL5 Signals.

Cost-Focused Signal Provider Setup

Signal providers generally benefit from low trading costs, reliable execution, stable MT5 infrastructure and sufficient market coverage to run their strategies consistently. Lower spreads and commissions can also help preserve reported strategy performance.

FP Markets and Pepperstone are particularly suitable for cost-sensitive EA and signal providers because of their raw-style pricing and active-trader infrastructure.

AvaTrade may suit signal providers who also value education, copy-trading options and a commission-free account structure. Eightcap may appeal to traders using TradingView-led analysis workflows, while CFI may suit multi-asset signal providers because of its broad instrument range.

MT5 Platform Features - What's Available and How to Use Them

MT5 includes several built-in tools that make it exceptionally versatile, especially for traders who use automated strategies, shorter or non-standard timeframes, multi-asset watchlists and faster order management. Most of these features are native to the MT5 platform, so they are generally available with AvaTrade, FP Markets, CFI, Pepperstone and Eightcap, although data quality, hedging availability, Depth of Market display and real tick back testing may vary by broker, entity and account type.

AvaTrade, FP Markets, CFI, Pepperstone, Eightcap - verify by entity/account type, as some MT5 accounts may use netting mode.
Strategy Tester
Backtests and optimises Expert Advisors using historical data. MT5 supports more advanced testing than MT4, including multi-threaded optimisation and real-tick testing where broker data allows.
View → Strategy Tester or Ctrl+R. Select “Every tick based on real ticks” where available for better accuracy.
AvaTrade, FP Markets, CFI, Pepperstone, Eightcap - available as an MT5 feature, but real-tick data quality should be checked inside the broker’s MT5 server.
Built-in economic calendar

AvaTrade, FP Markets, CFI, Pepperstone, Eightcap - built into MT5.
Depth of Market
Shows available bid/ask liquidity and order-book depth for the selected instrument, where the broker’s data feed supports it.

AvaTrade, FP Markets, CFI, Pepperstone, Eightcap - built into MT5, but must be enabled manually.

Right-click the open position in the Trade/Terminal area → Trailing Stop → choose the distance.
AvaTrade, FP Markets, CFI, Pepperstone, Eightcap - MT5 feature. It only works while MT5 is running, so VPS hosting is recommended for 24/5 use.
Partial close
Lets traders close part of an open position while keeping the remaining position active.
Right-click the open position → Close Position → reduce the lot size to the amount you want to close → confirm.
AvaTrade, FP Markets, CFI, Pepperstone, Eightcap - available where the account mode and instrument allow partial closing.
21 timeframes
Provides more chart intervals than MT4, including M2, M3, M4, M6, M10, M12, M20, H2, H3, H6, H8 and H12.
Use the timeframe selector bar, or right-click the chart/time axis and choose the preferred interval.
AvaTrade, FP Markets, CFI, Pepperstone, Eightcap - built into MT5.

MT5 Account Types - Standard vs Raw/ECN

MT5 brokers usually offer a choice between simple spread-only accounts and raw or ECN-style accounts with tighter spreads plus commission. Standard accounts are easier to understand and may suit beginners or lower-frequency traders, while raw-spread accounts can be more cost-efficient for active traders, scalpers, and EA users. The best MT5 account type depends on the full round-trip cost, trading volume, strategy, and whether you prefer predictable commissions or an all-in spread.

Account type
Spread
Commission
Round-trip cost, 1 lot
Brokers on this MT5 list
Best for on MT5
Standard / commission-free
Usually from around 0.6-1.2 pips, depending on broker, symbol and market conditions
None on Forex; broker cost is built into the spread
Around $6-$12 on EUR/USD-style pricing, depending on spread
AvaTrade, FP Markets, CFI, Pepperstone, Eightcap
Lower-frequency manual trading, MT5 exploration, beginners, and traders who prefer a simple spread-only cost structure.
Raw / Razor / ECN-style
From 0.0 pips where available
Usually around $3–$3.50 per lot per side
Around $6–$7, before any spread/slippage
Pepperstone Razor, FP Markets Raw, Eightcap Raw, CFI Dynamic Trader
Active trading, EAs, scalping and traders who need tighter spreads for higher-frequency MT5 strategies.
Zero-commission advanced account
Variable; CFI promotes competitive spreads and zero-commission pricing on its Zero Commission account
None
Depends on the spread at the time of trade
CFI Zero Commission
Traders who want broad MT5 market access and commission-free pricing but should still compare the all-in spread cost against raw-spread accounts.

For MT5 Strategy Tester: Always Back Test on the Account Type You'll Trade Live

The commission on a Raw/ECN account changes your strategy's profitability significantly compared to Standard.
If you plan to trade live on a Raw account ($3.50/lot commission), back test on Raw account parameters. A strategy that looks profitable on Standard pricing may not survive Raw commission costs at high frequency.
All Raw/ECN brokers on this list allow you to run the MT5 Strategy Tester on your Raw account's historical data.

Automated Trading on MT5: MQL5, Capitalise.ai and VPS

MT5 gives automated traders enhanced flexibility, providing a wealth of automation features ranging from advanced MQL5 Expert Advisors and powerful Strategy Tester tools to VPS hosting for 24/5 execution. Some brokers also support no-code automation tools such as Capitalise.ai, making MT5 suitable both for experienced algo traders and for beginners who want to automate trading rules without writing code.

Automation method
MT5 advantage over MT4
Who offers it
How to start
MQL5 Expert Advisors
MQL5 is more advanced than MQL4, with stronger back testing, multi-threaded optimisation and broader support for complex automated strategies.
AvaTrade, FP Markets, CFI, Pepperstone, Eightcap
Open MT5, then go to Tools → MetaQuotes Language Editor to build or edit an EA. Traders can also browse the MQL5 Marketplace from Tools → Market.
Capitalise.ai no-code automation
Allows traders to automate strategies in plain English without writing MQL5 code. Useful for traders who want rules-based automation but do not know how to code.
AvaTrade and Eightcap support Capitalise.ai no-code automation, subject to regional/account availability.
Open an Eightcap account, access Capitalise.ai from the client area or Capitalise.ai’s Eightcap integration page, create a strategy, backtest it, and connect it to the trading account where supported.
MT5 Strategy Tester for validation
MT5 offers more advanced backtesting than MT4, including multi-threaded optimisation, forward testing and real-tick testing where the broker’s MT5 server provides the required data.
AvaTrade, FP Markets, CFI, Pepperstone, Eightcap — but real-tick quality should be verified inside each broker’s MT5 server.
Press Ctrl+R in MT5, select the EA, symbol and timeframe, choose the modelling mode, then run the backtest. Use “Every tick based on real ticks” only where available.
VPS for 24/5 MT5 EA operation
A VPS allows MT5 EAs and signal subscriptions to keep running even when the trader’s computer is off. This is useful for automated strategies, copy signals and around-the-clock order management.
Pepperstone and FP Markets promote broker-supported VPS services for qualifying traders. AvaTrade supports VPS-based MetaTrader setups, while CFI and Eightcap can use MetaTrader Virtual Hosting or compatible third-party VPS services where supported. Availability and any free/subsidised conditions should be verified by entity and account.
For broker VPS, apply through the broker’s client portal or support. For MetaTrader Virtual Hosting, use the VPS/Virtual Hosting section inside MT5.

FAQs

Which MT5 broker is the best?

expand.png

AvaTrade is our #1 MT5 broker for 2026 because it combines broad multi-asset MT5 access, an unlimited demo account, strong regulation, education, automation and copy-trading options. FP Markets is particularly suitable for raw-style pricing and platform flexibility; CFI for research and tool depth; Pepperstone for scalping and active trading; and Eightcap for TradingView-led and crypto-CFD workflows.

Can I trade stocks on MT5?

expand.png

MT5 supports stock trading natively, but availability depends on the broker’s MT5 server. Some brokers offer stock CFDs through MT5, while others focus mainly on Forex, indices, commodities and crypto CFDs.

Can I use MT5 on mobile?

expand.png

Yes. MT5 is available on desktop, web and mobile. However, advanced functions such as Strategy Tester are desktop features, so EA developers usually need the desktop platform.

Is MT5 good for beginners?

expand.png

MT5 can be good for beginners who want to learn a modern multi-asset platform, but it has more features than MT4. Beginners should start with a demo account, use small position sizes and learn order types, margin and risk tools before trading live.

Do all MT5 brokers support hedging?

expand.png

Many MT5 brokers support hedging, but traders should verify Its availability on the exact account and server. If you need hedging, test it on using a demo account before funding a live account.

What is MT5 netting mode and how do I enable it?

expand.png

MT5 defaults to netting mode - if you open an opposing position, it reduces your existing position rather than creating a second one. MT4 traders who expect hedging (both positions running simultaneously) need to enable it first. Steps: MT5 → Tools → Options → Trade tab → tick 'Use hedge accounting' → OK. Must be set before placing any positions.

Is MT5 better for automated trading than MT4?

expand.png

MT5 is generally stronger for new automated strategies because of MQL5, real-tick Strategy Tester support, multi-threaded optimization and multi-currency testing. Traders with existing MQL4 EAs may still prefer to keep MT4 running.

What is the MT5 Strategy Tester and is it better than MT4's?

expand.png

The MT5 Strategy Tester is where you can back test and optimize Expert Advisors against historical data. MT5's is significantly better than MT4's: it uses real tick-by-tick data (not bar approximations), supports multi-threaded processing (faster), allows multi-currency back testing, and includes cloud optimization. Access it via Ctrl+R in MT5. For accurate scalping back tests, always select 'Every tick based on real ticks' as the modelling method.
