Bitcoin Price Jumps as ETF Inflows Jump
The BTC/USD pair continued its strong upward trend, reaching its highest level in months. This rally happened after Scott Bessent, the Treasury Secretary, announced a big intervention as US bond yields jumped. The 30-year yield soared to 5.336%, up sharply from the year-to-date low of 4.60%.
Investors are concerned about the soaring US public debt, which jumped to a record high of $40 trillion. This debt is so high considering that the global GDP surged to over $126.3 trillion.
Bitcoin benefits from these metrics because of its role as a safe-haven asset since it has a supply cap of 21 million coins. Gold, another hedge, also jumped to its highest level in years.
The BTC/USD pair jumped as investors moved to spot Bitcoin ETFs. Spot Bitcoin ETFs added over $307 million in assets on Friday after adding $606 million a day earlier. These funds added over $1.92 billion last week, the best weekly gain this year. They have now brought in over $2.3 billion this month, bringing the total assets under management to $96 billion.
Bitcoin will next react to the upcoming US consumer confidence report on Tuesday. Economists expect the report to show that confidence dropped substantially in August as inflation remained at an elevated level.
The BTC/USD pair will also react to any new developments on the US debt and bond yields. Additionally, the Jackson Hole Symposium will happen later this week, with investors waiting for a statement from Kevin Warsh.
BTC/USD Technical Analysis
The daily chart shows that the BTC/USD pair remained in a tight range for months. This consolidation ended last week as the coin surged to its highest level in months. It moved above the important resistance level of 66,875, its highest point on July 21.
The pair has moved above the 50-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA), while the Relative Strength Index (RSI) jumped to 75. It has become highly overbought this year.
Therefore, the price will likely remain over 70,000 this week. More gains will likely be confirmed if it moves above the important resistance level of 79,475. A move above that level will point to more gains, potentially to over 80,000.
